Statue: Major General Alexander Macomb--Detroit MI

General Macomb is one of several statues and sculptures along Washington Boulevard. He was a hero of the War of 1812. The statue was dedicated in 1908, and was built mainly by the efforts of the Michigan Society of the United States Daughters of 1812. The statue was designed by Adolph Alexander Weinman. A neighboring suburban county is named after General Macomb. and during the 1970s they attempted to have the city move the statue there, but Macomb stands as a silent sentinel in downtown Detroit.
